China’s next generation of energy technology

Our visit to China provided a valuable insight into the scale and pace of investment in energy infrastructure and technology.

China’s energy system is operating at an extraordinary scale, with extensive high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission networks, large-scale generation and significant investment in advanced energy technologies. To put that scale into perspective, if China’s entire installed generation capacity operated at 100% for 70 hours, it would produce enough electricity to power Australia for a full year. The scale becomes even more striking when looking at renewable energy. Chinas currently installed renewable energy capacity could generate enough electricity in around 30 days to power Australia for an entire year.

The visit also highlighted the significant investment being made in research and development, advanced manufacturing, automation and quality control across the energy supply chain.

For Renewable Energy Partners, seeing these capabilities firsthand provides valuable insight into the technologies and partnerships that could support the delivery of major energy infrastructure projects in Australia. It also reinforces the importance of building strong relationships with international technology and manufacturing partners as Queensland continues to develop its future energy system.

Big thanks to the team at Huawei for hosting us.

Queensland Community Energy Forum Builds Shared Understanding

The REP team recently participated in the Queensland Community Energy Forum in Inglewood. The event brings community members, industry representatives and government stakeholders together for an open discussion about Queensland’s evolving energy and resources sector.

For us, attending events like this is about listening. The communities in which we work have valuable local knowledge, perspectives and concerns, and it’s important that these are heard and understood as our projects are developed.

To ensure we develop projects responsibly and in step with community expectations, we take the time to listen and understand what matters locally, then work constructively with communities to address their concerns throughout the development process and carry these solutions through into construction.

Big thanks to Coexistence Queensland for bringing the community and industry together for an important conversation in Inglewood.

Supporting Indigenous Art, Culture and Community

Luke McDonald, REP’s CEO, hosted a table with CleanCo, CS Energy and Stanwell at the annual Lockhart River Charity Gala, continuing a tradition of support over the past three years through the purchase of artwork at the event’s auction. The gala celebrates and supports Indigenous artists from the Lockhart River community in Cape York, including artists connected to the renowned Lockhart River Art Centre, whose work reflects culture, Country and storytelling across painting, ceramics, weaving and carving. For our company, supporting the event aligns closely with our broader commitment to working respectfully with Indigenous Australians across our renewable energy developments. It is a meaningful opportunity to celebrate Indigenous creativity, contribute to regional communities, and reinforce the importance of building strong, respectful and lasting partnerships with Traditional Owners.

We’re looking forward to hanging this beautiful painting from Lockhart River artist Irene Hamok in the office!

Capricornia Pumped Hydro supporting the Greater Whitsunday Region

After a brief stop at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay for the Australia v Bangladesh test match, we headed west to Moranbah for the annual Isaac Mayor’s Charity Ball, which Capricornia Pumped Hydro was proud to sponsor and attend.

The Ball brings industry, business and community together to raise money for two organisations making a very real difference across the region: BMA CQ Rescue, providing vital medical services when they are needed most, and Country Universities Centre Isaac, helping people access higher education while continuing to live locally.

A special thank you to Mayor Kelly Vea Vea, Cr Melissa Westcott and everyone involved in bringing such a wonderful community event together.

It was also great to hear from Assistant Minister for Regional Development, Resources and Critical Minerals Bryson Head MP about the Queensland Government’s support for regional Queensland.

From international cricket in Mackay to a packed community event in Moranbah, the weekend was a great reminder of the energy, opportunity and community spirit across the region.

Looking Ahead

If you’d like to learn more or get in touch with the team, we’d welcome the conversation.
